Learner’s licence test
What is a learner’s licence? Before you are allowed to take driving lessons on a public road, you need to prove to the authorities that you know and understand some necessary things about driving and the law of the road. And passing the k53 learner’s test is how you prove this. Because when you pass this test, you will qualify for a learner’s licence. And this will show that you are permitted to drive on a public road, provided you are accompanied by a suitably qualified and licenced driver.
To pass the learner’s licence test you must:
- know all the rules of the road;
- understand the the K53 defensive driving system;
- know what the various vehicle controls (steering wheel, gears, footbrake, mirrors etc.) are used for; and
- know the meanings of the k53 road signs, signals and road markings, and how a driver should respond to each of them appropriately.
What will a learner’s licence authorise you to do?
- You can drive on any public road (including freeways), as long as you’re with someone who has a valid license for the type of vehicle you’re driving, and they should sit beside you or, if that’s not feasible, right behind you.
- You can have passengers in the vehicle as long as they aren’t paying a fee.
Note: A motorcycle learner driver are not allowed to carry a passenger (not even the driving instructor). You are therefore permitted to ride alone unaccompanied.
